Effect of porosity degree on molybdenum erosion during ion irradiation

Description
Effect of the powder molybdenum porosity degree on radiation erosion during ion irradiation is studied. Cathode sputtering of the material with porosity up to 42% in helium glow discharge of low pressure is studied as well as the Elistering at irradiation of porous molybdenum with monochromatic ions of helium with 20 keV energy and at the target temperature of 920 K. It is shown that porosity increase results in the decrease of cathode sputtering coefficient and in considerable suppression of blistering. However at irradiation with monochromatic ions of helium with 20 keV energy and temperature of 920 K summary coefficient of radiation erosion increases considerably with the increase of molybdenum porosity degree. Suppositions are made on possible mechanisms of the given phenomenon
