Calculation of heating of ionosphere and plasmasphere electron component by Alfven and fast magnetoacoustic waves

Description

Algorithm to calculate thermal flows and local sources of heating in the Earth magnetosphere due to dissipation of ring current energy at its interaction with external plasmasphere is presented. Using a simple example one shows, that heating is conducted far off geomagnetic equator and is more efficient at R-mode excitation. Calculations have shown, that thermal flows may reach ∼ 3x1011 eVxs-1xcm-2 value and it may result in essential increase of external plasmasphere temperature (∼8500 K) and intensive SAR-arcs (∼ 10 kR)
