Families of varieties and the Hilbert scheme

  • 1. Rome Univ., II, Rome (Italy)
  • 2. Universita di Roma, ''La Sapienza'', Rome (Italy)

Description

After a short introduction in which the Chow varieties and the Hilbert scheme are defined and discussed, various properties of this scheme, especially for what concerns families of curves, are illustrated. Then, the existence problem of smooth projective curves and some of the known results concerning irreducibility of Hilbert scheme of curves and the relation between Hilbert scheme and moduli of curves are discussed.
