Measurement of the cross section for resonant charge exchange of the He+ on He0 with a merged beams apparatus
Description
This thesis reports absolute measurements of the cross section for the resonant charge exchange reaction He+ + He0 → He + He+ for center of mass energies from 5 to 200 eV. These measurements were performed in order to assess the performance of a newly completed merged beams apparatus by studying a known reaction. Consistency checks on the apparatus and the measured parameters used in obtaining a cross section are discussed in detail. A comparison of the present results with previous data are found to be in agreement with the results of Mahadevan and Magnuson
