Polarization of impurity ion emission lines from the GAMMA 10 tandem mirror plasma

Description
By using a calcite plate and a bundle of optical fibres, the entrance surfaces of which are aligned in two columns, we resolved the two linearly polarized components of the emission lines. We found significant polarization for the Fe II and Cr I lines, while the O V lines showed little polarization. This finding suggests that the electron velocity distribution is significantly anisotropic at the periphery of the plasma. (author). Letter-to-the-editor
