Acoustic emission in superconducting magnets
Description
Acoustic emission as a diagnostic tool to test the behavior of superconducting magnets during charging and operation is discussed. Released mechanical stresses built up by Lorentz forces and flux movement give rise to the emission of acoustic bursts. An attempt is made to correlate the number of events and the integral peak amplitude distribution versus magnet current to the ongoing physical processes for a laboratory scale solenoid. 10 refs
