Heavy flavor production in e+e- annihilation

Creators

Description

This chapter reviews the production characteristics of the particles containing heavy quarks in e+e- annihilation. There are five e+e- storage rings in operation that continue to provide collisions in the charm and beauty energy range and fifteen mostly general purpose detectors that can be used for ongoing detailed studies of particles with heavy flavors. The cross-section for production of heavy new quarks is known once the threshold region has been passed. Two very interesting structures, one in the charm region and a further state in the beauty region, have been observed at 3.772 GeV and 10.54 GeV. Since the final states containing the heavy quarks particles are less complicated at 11 GeV than at 35 GeV (PETRA), it is recommended that heavy flavor studies be performed at DORIS II and CESR. Two general purpose detectors, CLEO and ARGUS, can also be used. The top quark t has been extensively searched for at PETRA
