Cooling of rectangular bars
Description
A solution of the time-transient Heat Transfer Differential Equation in rectangular coordinates is presented, leading to a model which describes the temperature drop with time in rectangular bars. It is similar to an other model for cilindrical bars which has been previously developed in the Laboratory of Mechanical Metallurgy of UFRGS. Following these models, a generalization has been made, which permits cooling time evaluation for all profiles. These results are compared with experimental laboratory data in the 1200 to 8000C range. Some other existing models were also studied which have the purpose of studing the same phenomenon. Their mathematical forms and their evaluated values are analyzed and compared with experimental ones. (Author)

Apresenta-se a solucao da equacao diferencial de transferencia de calor em coordenadas retangulares, chegando-se a um modelo que descreve o decrescimo de temperatura com o tempo em barras retangulares, baseado em outro modelo desenvolvido anteriormente para barras cilindricas no Laboratorio de Conformacao Mecanica da UFRGS. A partir destes modelos foi feita uma generalizacao que permite o calculo dos tempos de resfriamento para todas as geometrias. Estes resultados foram confrontados com valores experimentais obtidos em laboratorio na faixa de 1200 a 800 0C. Estudam-se alguns outros modelos existentes que se destinam a analisar o mesmo fenomeno. As suas formas matematicas bem como os valores que entram no calculo sao analizados e confrontados com valores praticos. (Autor)Files
