A summarizing survey is given on the fuel element industry of the western world in which the most important firms are dealt with in special sections. The further parts of the investigation closely deal with the market, technology of fabrication, fuel element damages occured and measures for improvement, fuel element test equipment in West Europe, aims of the fuel element development, fabrication costs, fabrication of Pu-contained fuel elements as well as the state promotion in the FRG, USA, Europe and Japan. Es wird eine zusammenfassende Uebersicht ueber die Brennelementindustrie der westlichen Welt gegeben, wobei die bedeutendsten Firmen in besonderen Abschnitten behandelt werden. Die weiteren Teile der Untersuchung befassen sich ausfuehrlich mit dem Markt, der Technologie der Fertigung, aufgetretenen Brennelementschaeden und Verbesserungsmassnahmen, den Brennelementtesteinrichtungen in Westeuropa, den Zielen der Brennelemententwicklung, den Fertigungskosten, der Fertigung Pu-haltiger Brennelemente sowie der staatlichen Foerderung in der BRD, den USA, Europa und Japan.
