Coulomb energy of 3He

  • 1. Graz Univ. (Austria). Inst. fuer Theoretische Physik

Description

The AGS quasiparticle method provides an elegant way to include the Coulomb interaction in the three-nucleon system, especially, if only two charge nucleons are present in the three-body system. The method takes into account the Coulomb force exactly and so the usual Coulomb singularity trouble appears. Nevertheless, since there is still no managable exact treatment of the Coulomb many-body system available, the Coulomb singularity is circumvented by using a Yukawa type cut off. But performing several numerical tests it turned out that for the bound state problem a cut off-procedure would not be needed. Considering the small inter-nucleon distances in the three-nucleon bound state it seems to be plausible that the long range Coulomb singularity rather weakly influences the three-nucleon binding energy.
