EU taxonomy for sustainable finance. The need to reform the European electricity system?

It is not the intention of this short article to set out the full details of the EU's taxonomy for sustainable finance, a process launched more than three years ago by the European Commission. Instead, this is a summary, so that we can then move on to broader reflections on the European electricity system, which was set in motion 30 years ago and is in constant reform .... and which is not working as it should. The tough discussions in Brussels and European capitals about the inclusion of nuclear and gas in the taxonomy, combined with the energy crisis that has a direct impact on the daily lives of Europe's citizens, provide an opportunity to take a step back and understand that a profound reform of the electricity system in Europe is needed.
Abstract (German)
Es ist nicht die Absicht dieses kurzen Artikels, die kompletten Details der EU-Taxonomie für ein nachhaltiges Finanzwesen darzulegen, ein vor mehr als drei Jahren durch die Europäische Kommission eingeleiteter Prozess. Stattdessen ist dies hier eine Zusammenfassung, um dann weiter zu breiter gefassten Überlegungen über das europäische Elektrizitätssystem kommen zu können, das vor 30 Jahren in Gang gesetzt wurde und sich in ständiger Reform befindet .... und das nicht so funktioniert wie gewünscht. Die harten Diskussionen in Brüssel und den europäischen Hauptstädten über die Aufnahme von Kernenergie und Gas in die Taxonomie, in Kombination mit der Energiekrise, die einen direkten Einfluss auf den Alltag der Bürger Europas hat, bieten die Gelegenheit, einen Schritt zurück zu treten und zu verstehen, dass eine tiefgreifende Reform des Elektrizitätssystems in Europa notwendig ist.Additional details
