Impurity distribution in Al2O3 formed on an FeCrAl alloy

Description
Analytical electron microscopy and Auger spectroscopy were used to study the amount and distribution of Fe, Cr and S impurities in the Al2O3 scale grown on an FeCrAl alloy. Segregations of Fe on grain boundaries and S on internal void surfaces were found, and a mechanism of intragranular void formation in Al2O3 is proposed
