Alpha-activation analysis of refined petroleum

  • 1. Saha Inst. of Nuclear Physics, Calcutta (India)

Description

Preliminary studies on the existence of trace elements in refined petroleum through charged particle activation analysis (CPAA), using a 40 MeV beam of α-particles, has revealed, possibly for the first time, the presence of the three elements niobium, tantalum and thallium, in addition to some other elements already reported by using the neutron activation technique. The possibility of air-pollution due to thallium is stressed. (Author)
