Form factors determination in the Σ-→ne-electron antineutrino decay
Description
The decay Σ-→ne-electron antineutrino was studied using a hyperon beam at the CERN Proton Synchroton. The beam delivered 50Σ-/burst, at a central momentum of 18GeV/c, at the exit of the magnetic channel. A DISC Cherenkov counter and a threshold Cherenkov counter identified the Σ- and the electron, respectively. The apparatus consisted mainly in two streamer chambers: one, 3m long, just behind the DISC, measured the electron direction and the decay vertex; the other one, 1.4m long, installed in a magnetic field of 0.8T, measured the electron momentum. A neutron detector made of optical spark chambers with thick plates allowed to reconstruct the neutron direction from the apex of the hadronic shower and the Σ- decay vertex. From the sample of 349 reconstructed events, the form factors ratio was measured, using the neutron energy spectrum

La desintegration Σ-→ne-antineutrino electronique a ete etudiee en utilisant un faisceau d'hyperons au synchrotron a proton du CERN. Le faisceau delivrait 50Σ-/burst, d'impulsion moyenne 18GeV/c, a la sortie du canal magnetique. Un compteur Cherenkov DISC et un compteur Cherenkov a seuil identifiaient respectivement le Σ- et l'electron. L'appareillage etait compose principalement de deux chambres a streamer: l'une, de 3m de long, placee derriere le DISC, mesurait la direction de l'electron et le vertex de desintegration; l'autre, de 1,4m de long, placee dans un champ magnetique de 0,8T, mesurait l'impulsion de l'electron. Un detecteur de neutron, constitue de chambres a etincelles optiques a plaques epaisses permettait de reconstruire la direction du neutron, a partir de l'apex de la gerbe hadronique et du vertex de desintegration du Σ-. Avec un lot de 349 evenements reconstruits, on a mesure, en utilisant le spectre d'energie du neutron, le rapport des facteurs de formeFiles
