Categorical course in neuroradiology A. Supratentorial neoplasms
Description
Neuroradiologic evaluation of brain tumors is an integral part of the day-to-day practice of radiology. CT is presently the procedure of choice for the diagnosis of most brain tumors. MR imaging is more sensitive than CT for diagnostic purposes but is not more specific. MR imaging is most helpful in the patient with definitely abnormal signs and symptoms. For example, in patients with a long-standing seizure disorder and a normal CT scan, MR imaging may disclose an abnormal area of signal intensity secondary to brain tumor. The discussion considers the preferred use of CT or MR imaging for various supratentorial brain tumors. Techniques for making a correct imaging-based diagnosis will be offered, as well as guidelines for selecting the diagnostic procedure of choice. The benefits and deficiencies of CT versus MR imaging for the evaluation of brain tumors are compared
