Evaluation of treatment plan for prostate cancer using intensity modulated radiation therapy

Description
This work was done in children's Cancer Hospital Egypt (57357), we used Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy ( IMRT) planning for ten patients of prostate cancer. The planning was done using KonRad software to implement the original goal of radiotherapy by maximize dose to tuomer and minimize dose to OARs. The plan was evaluated for PTV and OARs using Homogeneity Index, Maximum Dose and Mean Dose. The average was taken for each of PTVs volume is 261.6 cc, HI=1.2 max = 80.19 gY, dmin - 53.32 Gy and Dmean = 72.96 Gy of target volume (prostate). Organs at risk of prostate planning contain Bladder, Rectum Right Fernoral and left Femoral. Dose of these organs was evaluated using Maximum Dose and Mean Dose the averages volumes for Bladder = 156.21 ce, Rectum = 133.84 cc Right femoral = 243.5 cc, left Femoral = 224.63 cc. Maximum dose of Bladder = 71.27 Gy, Rectum = 71.27 Gy, Reetum = 29.04 Gy, RIght femoral = 9.54 Gy and left femoral = 11.59 Gy. The dose of bladder and rectum are higher than tolerance dose because about 20% of bladder and rectum due to overlap in PTV. (Author)
