Theoretical parameters of powerful radio galaxies. III. Acceleration of particles
Description
It is shown that particle acceleration at the fronts of strong shock waves in the hot spots and lobes of powerful radio galaxies is an effective mechanism for the generation of relativistic electrons with γ/sub e/ ∼ 107 and protons with energy ∼ 1020 eV. The efficiency of acceleration of relativistic electrons by cyclotron resonance with Alfven turbulence behind the front of the reverse shock wave in the hot spot of a radio source is estimated
