Effect of potassium salts on the transfer of 137Cs in soil-plant system

Description
A study on reducing the transfer of 137Cs from soil to plant was conducted by pot and plot experiment using potassium sulfate, carbonate and chloride. The result showed that all of the three kinds of potassium salts could reduce the transfer of 137Cs in soil-plant system, of which the potassium sulfate performed best and had a stable later effects in the second and third year. The available amount of potassium salt to apply was explored and it was found that 1/30 of soil available cation was suitable. The mechanism could be explained as that the available 137Cs in soil was reduced effectively by the application of potassium salt so that the transfer of 137Cs in soil-plant system decreased significantly
