Description
Exposures due to natural radiation are of particular importance because it accounts for the largest contribution to the total collective radiation dose to the world population. The natural radioactivity due to uranium, thorium with the associated decay products and potassium (40K) is wide spread in the earth's crust. Uranium and its decay product, Radon-222 contributes more than 50% of the radiation dose globally received by general public. However, the radiation dose due to uranium isotopes is very less as compared to its decay products (222Rn), Radon. The estimation of the concentration of uranium in various environmental matrices such as air, water, food materials, soil etc. is gaining momentum since last decade. Therefore, the present paper reports the feasibility of uranium occurrence in soil and drinking water samples from different areas
