Pion-induced non-analog double charge exchange

Description

Regular features of the experimental data for non-analog DCX transitions have been observed for all T = 0 targets (available as solids). The mass dependence of A/sup -4/3/ has been suggested to indicate that these transitions are due to excitation of final state Δ-hole components in the ground state wave functions. The regularity of the observed data indicate that a nuclear structure independent amplitude is responsible for non-analog DCX. This result is in sharp contrast to the structure dependent interference effects between first- and higher-order processes which appear necessary to explain DIAT-DCX. 13 references, 3 figures
