Method for analysis of the characteristic matrix in optical systems
Description
Similarity between the characteristic matrix and the scattering matrix is noted. This similarity is exploited to develop a method for deriving the characteristic matrix in a closed form and to develop a perturbation expansion of the characteristic matrix of one-dimensional variation of refractive index. Examples are given
