Conductivity of HfF4-BaF2-RF3 and MF3-BaF2-YbF3 glassy anionic conductors (R = Nd, Yb; M = Al, Ga, Sc, In)

Electric properties of ternary fluoride glasses with composition 62HfF4-30BaF2-8RF3 and 40MF3-40BaF2-20YbF3 (R = Nd, Yb; M = Al, Ga, Sc, In) were investigated by complex impedance method in the range of 5-5x105Hz frequencies. Anion transfer parameters in HfF4-containing glasses are practically unaffected by the type and concentration of rare earth trifluoride: conductivity σ = 3x10-4 cv/v at 500 K and enthalpy ΔHσ = 0.9 eV. The values of σ and ΔHσ are varied through 2x10-6 - 3x10-3 cm/m and 1.1-0.8 eV ranges for the fluoride glasses with composition 40HfF4-40BaF2-20YbF3 as increasing ionic radius at 500 K. On the basic of conductometric data the conclusion on the roel of isomorphgic substituting atoms in the process of fluoride glasses formation can be reached
