Analysis of effects of radiation therapy on the cervical cancer by local responce

  • 1. Hiroshima Univ. (Japan). School of Medicine

Description

In 60 patients with cancer of the uterine cervix subjected to Linac x-ray irradiation, the local reaction was studied in detail colposcopically, cytologically, histologically and electron microscopically. The effect of irradiation was classified into 3 groups based on the macroscopic and colposcopic findings of the local reaction at the end of irradiation to analyze the various changes with reference to the effect of irradiation statistically. The most remarkable changes on irradiation with 1,000 rad were expressed in 5 cytological and histological items respectively and the degrees of the changes were evaluated by the use of scores, thus making it possible to evaluate the effect of irradiation early. Comparison of the degree of nuclear enlargement of the carcinoma cells of the parabasal cell type after the irradiation with 1,000 rad was also useful for the early evaluation of the effect of irradiation.
