Study on vapor condensation heat transfer to liquid spray (analytical result and effect of non-condensable gas)

  • 1. Tokyo Inst. of Tech. (Japan)

Description

Related to cooling and pressure control in nuclear power plants, condensation heat transfer of steam to a hollow cone-spray of subcooled water was investigated. The condensation heat transfer was estimated using film sheet model and droplet models. A comparison of the predictions with the experimental data indicates that the heat transfer is dominated by turbulence in the film sheet, and by internal circulation and mixing inside the droplets. In the non-condensable environment, the heat transfer rate is larger than the prediction by the laminar film sheet model of Hasson et al., possibly because steam phase near interface and spray sheet is disturbed.
