Attenuation and scatter correction in planar gamma camera imaging

  • 1. Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, 11000 Belgrade (Serbia)

Description

A simple and a powerful method to correct for attenuation and the buildup of scatter in planar gamma camera nuclear medicine imaging is presented. The method is based on use of uniform μ-map to correct for attenuation and Monte Carlo simulated geometric progression dose buildup factors to correct for buildup of scatter. A comparison of results obtained by proposed method and Sorenson geometric mean approach is presented for some phantoms. Excellent results were obtained (errors of less than % 3 ) for various phantom configurations used to evaluate the method. (author)
