Description

The cross section of the p(n,γ)d reaction was directly measured for the first time at En=550 keV, where the theoretical E1 transition strength is comparable to the M1 strength. It was determined accurately to be 35.2 (24) μb, and it agrees with the theoretical one which includes the meson-exchange currents. In this work, a prompt discrete γ-ray detection method combined with a pulsed neutron beam and a newly developed Monte Carlo code was essential to obtain an accurate cross section. copyright 1997 The American Physical Society
