Quark-lepton families in a model with SU(5)xSU(3) symmetry
Description
The running [from the SU(5)xSU(3) symmetry limit μapprox.1015 GeV to our energies μ = 1--10 GeV] masses of the quarks d, s, and b and the Kobayashi-Maskawa mixing angles theta1, theta2, and theta3 are calculated in a grand unification model with a ''horizontal'' SU(3) symmetry between various quark-leptonic generations. Two versions of the model are treated: model A with three quark-leptonic generations [according to the standard SU(5)] and model B with six generations [as predicted by the SU(8) symmetry with unification of all quark-leptonic flavors]. Both models agree with the data on the masses of the lower quarks and on the Cabibbo angle theta/sub C/ = theta1roughly-equal(m/sub d//m/sub s/)/sup 1/2/. These models predict a very small value for the angle theta3approx.10-3--10-2 and a rather large CP phase deltaapprox.0.1. These predictions should lead on the one hand to an essential suppression of weak (b → u) transitions and on the other hand to a considerable charge asymmetry in the decays of the (B0--B-bar0) system. The models predict also the mass of the t quark: m/sub t/ = 150--200 GeV (model A) and m/sub t/ = 20-40 GeV (model B) for a c-quark mass m/sub c/ = 1.5--1.3 GeV
