Robotic synthesis of [11C]CH3-methionine with isolation by solid-state extraction
Description
Robotic technology is developed for preparing radiopharmaceutical grade 11CH3-methionine to be used in positron-emission tomography of the brain in order to estimate the rate of protein biosynthesis. The technology is based on the synthesis of 11CH3-methionine from [11C]-CH3I and DL-homocysteinethiolactone with subsequent isolation of the product by solid-state extraction. The activity of the resulting product is 0.13-0.17 Ci, the specific activity is 325-850 Ci/mmole, the total synthesis time from the end of bombardment is 16-19 min, and the radiochemical yield based on 11CH3I corrected for 11C decay is 60%
