Description
The JMTR (Japan Materials Testing Reactor) is a light water moderated and cooled 50 MW tank type reactor using the ETR type fuel elements, and there are many irradiation facilities such as in-core capsules, hydraulic rabbit facilities, inpile loops and a shroud facility and a multicell hot laboratory associated with the reactor. The reactor went to first criticality in March 1968, and power operation for irradiation experiment started in January 1970. The JMTR core has been converted from HEU (93 % EU) fuel to MEU (45 % EU) fuel since July 1986, in order to increase proliferation resistance of the JMTR fuel. In this paper, a general description is given on the JMTR including future plans. (author)
