Androgen receptor-based imaging agents for the prostate: Synthesis and tissue distribution studies with tritium and fluorine-18 labeled androgens

Description

Prostatic tissue and most prostatic tumors contain receptors for androgens, so a suitable radiolabelled androgen could then act as an imaging agent for prostatic tumors. In order to develop suitable androgen-receptor based imaging agents, the authors first investigated the uptake of five androgens, available commercially in high specific activity tritium-labelled form, in the prostate of one-day castrated rats. Based on these uptake studies, they have synthesized 20-fluoromibolerone and have conducted tissue distribution studies in rats
