Description

This paper describes an environmental monitoring system installed in Virginia Power's Surry Unit 1 containment building. The system was originally installed to record temperature and radiation operating data for life extension evaluations for the Control Rod Drive Mechanisms and electric cable. The system was expanded to record temperature data for present day evaluations for EQ equipment. The key element in the system is a real time data acquisition system which transmits sixty-two temperature readings and one radiation reading through two containment penetrations to a PC located outside containment. Data conversion techniques and initial results are also discussed
