Profile consistency in quasilinear and nonlinear high beta magnetohydrodynamic computations

  • 1. New York Univ., NY (USA). Courant Inst. of Mathematical Sciences

Description

Results are reported from nonlinear and quasilinear simulations of high β large aspect ratio Tokamak plasmas. We find long time steady states in which low mode number MHD activity, dissipation and heating give consistent pressure profiles. The ratios of average pressure to peak pressure, and of inversion radius to wall radius are proportional to the wall rotational transform, 1/qa. The dominant effect is caused by the m = n = 1 mode, but other low m, n modes are also important. The pressure profile is insensitive to the heating profile. (author)
