Synthesis and some physicochemical properties of compounds with B12X122- anions

Description
The compounds with anions B12Cl122- and B12Br122- have been obtained. The method of synthesizing compounds with B12I12sup(2-) in n-nonyl alcohol with the use of iodine chloride as an iodinating agent has been proposed. The compounds of the composition Cs2B12X12(X=Cl,Br,I) have been investigated by infrared spectroscopy and roentgenography. Complete substitution of halogen atoms for hydrogen ones is icosahedral ion B12H122- has been confirmed. The periods of elementary cells of Cs2B12X12 have been determined. Solubility of cesium salts in water at 25 deg C is: Cs2B12Cl12 - 3.05 mass%; Cs2B12Br12 - 6.36 mass%, Cs2B12I12 - 6.22 mass%. On the basis of data on intensities of diffraction maxima with identical indices, the conclusion has been made that the compounds Cs2B12Br12 and Cs2B12I12 are isostructural. Solubility of slightly soluble salts Ag2B12Br12 and Ag2B12I12 has been determined in water at 25 deg C
