In-reactor uniaxial fracture strain of 20%-cold-worked type 316 stainless steel

Description

In-reactor creep strain and fracture strain were determined for type 316 stainless steel at 430, 550, and 6250C. Specimens were irradiated in EBR-II to a fluence of 5 x 1026 n/m2 (E > 0.1 MeV). Strain rates of 10-10 to 10-9 S-1 were achieved by using a swelling driven device to apply stress. Fracture strains of 6% at 5500C and 1% at 6250C were observed. All fractures were intergranular as expected for such low strain rates
