Paleogeographic interpretation of the heavy mineral assemblages from the Albian to Cenomanian sediments of the Klape Unit, Tatric and Fatric units

This work provide a systematic research of clastic material in Klape Unit and Poruba Formation as well of their paleogeographical relationship. The research showed that both units are dominated by spinel, tourmaline, zircon and garnet, however, differing in their percentages. Almandine garnets probably came from rocks, which were similar to the crystalline basement of the Western Carpathians. Pyrope-almandine garnets came from the now non-existent granulite rocks of the Oravic continental segment derived from the Moldanubic zone of the Bohemian Massif. Alkaline tourmalines probably came from metamorphosed sediments and granitoid source area, located north of the Tatric Unit. Cr-spinels were derived from ultramafic rocks of upper mantle, probably from Meliatic oceanic crust. Glaucophane and ferroglaucophane grains were derived from the blue schists most probably from the same realm and their protolith were mostly mafic rocks. (authors)
