Cooling of molten material liquid pool submitted to volumetric heating new correlations for various cooling conditions
Description
The paper presents new experimental and theoretical results related to the thermohydraulics of a molten pool subjected to the effects of a volumetric residual power dissipation. Experiments in water (BAFOND) are performed for: 2 <∼ Pr <∼ 7; 1012 <∼ RaH < 1016; 1 <∼ H/D <∼ <3. A simplified model is developed and relations are derived to determine the maximum temperature in the pool. These relations are a generalization of the correlation proposed by FIEG (Ref. 4) in laminar and turbulent regimes, taking into account Pr and H/D effects. The relations for cylindrical and rectangular cavities are given
