Description

Total ozone date above Damascus city (33.5N,36.23E)and some other cities located at the same latitude (Beirut, Baghdad, Casablanca) has been analyzed to examine temporal (daily, seasonal and annual) and spatial variability by employing statistical analyses. Data was obtained by spectrometer (TOMS) and Global Ozone Monitoring Experiment-2 (GOME-2) board on satellites during 2013. Results showed that total ozone layer has a temporal variation. The daily total ozone varied between a maximum value of 401 DU over Beirut, and a minimum value of 239 DU over Beirut, and Casablanca. A seasonal cycle was also demonstrated with a maximum value in spring and a minimum during the fall season. The ultraviolet index was determined, it corresponded to 7.1 in Damascus, which is within the high range. High index values were recorded in July and 11.2 was the highest value among the studied cities. (author)
