Design and tests of the 50 kA-18 kV thyristor making switches for the RFX experiment

Description
The paper describes the design, the construction and the test procedure of a making switch prototype based on thyristors. In particular, details are given about the design criteria to guarantee the requested switch life and about the control system architecture, aimed at simplifying the interface with the rest of the plant. Results of the prototype tests are presented and discussed
