The Elastic Scattering of Protons by α-Particles at Elab = 40 and 95 MeV

Description

We have calculated the scattering with a simple Gaussian central two-body potential. The repulsive core is probably not very important here since the width of the forward diffraction peek corresponds to a scattering potential with a radius equal to the sum of the radius of the α-particle (≈2F) and the range of the nuclear forces (≈ 1*4F), rather than to the radius of the a- particle alone, as one would expect from the small radius of the repulsive core.
