Determination of As, Cd, Hg, Cu and Zn in biological samples by radiochemical neutron activation analysis

  • 1. Academia Sinica, Shanghai, SH (China). Shanghai Inst. of Nuclear Research

Description

A simple and rapid group separation scheme based on extraction for NAA determination of trace elements of As, Cd, Hg, Cu and Zn in biological materials is described. For this purpose, zinc diethyldithiocarbamate and methyl isobutyl ketone iodide were chosen as reagents. The elements were extracted successively and quantitatively from strong mineral acids and separated into two groups suitable for gamma-ray spectrometry. The contents of As, Cd, Hg, Cu and Zn in human hair and liver were determined by radiochemical NAA. The results obtained were compared with the literature values. (author) 10 refs
