Kinetics of vanadium(V) oxidation of D-mannitol
- 1. Government Science Coll., Gwalior (India)
Description
Kinetics of vanadium(V) oxidation of D-mannitol in sulfuric acid medium over a range of 60-80 0C have been studied. The oxidation rate increases with squar of sulfuric acid and bisulfate ion concentrations. The effect of acetic acid on the rate indicates the reaction to be of ion-dipole type. The thermodynamic parameters have been computed. The kinetic evidence does not indicate the formation of an intermediate compound between the substrate and the active species of vanadium(V). Possible reaction steps are also suggested. (author)
