Structural developments in the Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu-O superconductors from amorphous precursors

Description
This paper reports on quenching of melts of Bi-Sr-Ca-Cu oxides that has been found to produce amorphous materials of extremely high density from which various superconducting phases (Bi2CrCan-1CunO2n+4+δ, n = 1, 2 and 3) can be developed by proper heat treatments. The characteristics of growth of these superconducting phases from the amorphous phase, the mode of intergrowth of these phases, and the dependence of Tc of these phases on the type of heat treatment will be discussed. Discussions on the effect of the replacement of Bi by Pb and of Ca by Cd on Tc and on structure will be added
