AU Leonis: an extragalactic object in the general catalogue of variable stars
Description
The object AU Leo, listed in the General Catalogue of Variable Stars as a U Geminorumtype variable, is actually a blue irregular galaxy. It has a sharp emission-line spectrum of high excitation, and a redshfft of + 7545::::: 40 km sec-1. In view of the difficulty in determining magnitudes of extended objects, there is little evidence for its variability. Key words: blue galaxies - variable stars
