VHE and UHE gamma ray astronomy: transients and sources

Creators

  • 1. University Coll., Dublin (Ireland). Dept. of Physics

Description

The transient and sporadic nature of a number of Cosmic gamma ray sources is examined in relation to VHE (1011 to 1014eV) observations of pulsars and X-ray binary systems. Transients are not all that common but when they occur they generally produce emission of sufficient intensity and duration to obtain statistically significant effects which are gradually helping to establish a source catalog. A brief review is also made of the staus of UHE (>1014eV) gamma ray astronomy
