Description
It is a fundamental and basic requirement today to pay careful attention to safety regulation and health physics. Protective measures in operating an instrument which produces ionizing radiation is essential. Scientists work more carefully when they know more about the hazards of such an instrument. The working principles and hazards of different types of neutron generators and their supplementary systems are discussed. In the first part the characteristics and constituents of different types of neutron generators are briefly described. In the second part, the potential hazards which are associated with the operation of a neutron generator and radiological safety measurements which can be taken to protect the personnel against the hazards to ionizing radiation are given. Finally, in order to work safely with neutron generators and eliminate any possible risk the necessary operational safety and radiation protection standards are described
