Determination of trace elements in woods

  • 1. Kyoto Univ. (Japan). Faculty of Agriculture

Description

The particle induced X-ray emission(PIXE) method was applied to the analysis of the elements in tree rings of sugi(Cryptomeria japonica D.Don). The wood samples were collected from near the arsenic mine(Miyazaki prefecture), the copper mine and the antimony refinary(Shiga prefecture). Arsenic is hardly detectable in sugi grown up at the normal condition. However, in this case it was detected corresponding virtually to the period when the refinary had been in operation. (author)
