Description
This paper describes two projects of research and development that authors have conducted for highly advanced radiotherapy (RT) in CREST (Core Research for Evolutional Science and Technology): the remote dose calculation for RT by X-ray (IMAGINE) and the development of practically usable, small proton beam generator. In IMAGINE for the photon therapy even like that by intensity modulated RT and CTRTx, a rapid calculation of highly precise dose distribution is to be available with use of detailed human body model and of Monte Carlo simulation system. Actually, when patients' CT images and therapeutic plans are sent from the remote treatment site, the dose data calculated are to be promptly sent back to the site to aid RT. Basic research for developing a therapeutic equipment of proton beam by laser acceleration is now in progress using massively-parallel computer. The beam available now is of the energy of several to several ten MeV (max. 58 MeV) and is found applicable to eye lesions. (R.T.)
