p53 and k-ras mutations in lung cancer associated with residential radon exposure

Description
Objective: The aim of the study was to analyze mutation of p53 and k-ras genes in lung cancer related to residential radon exposure. Methods: PCR amplification, PCR-SSCP electrophoresis, and sequence analysis were carried out. Results: Five of 9 lung cancer cases were found to be positive with p53 PCR-SSCP electrophoresis techniques and in 3 among the 5 base substitution was observed. Conclusion: Five of the seven cases of lung cancer 200-350 Bq·m-3·a-1 radon level had p53 gene mutation, which might be related to age and smoking status of the patients
