Transfer of reactors on thermal neutrons to a closed uranium-thorium fuel cycle as a method of solving problems of nuclear power and weapon materials conversion
- 1. Russian Federal Nuclear Center-VNIIEF, Sarov (Russian Federation)
Description
It is shown that the transfer of reactors on thermal neutrons to the closed uranium-thorium fuel cycle simplifies the solution of most important nuclear power problems: irradiated nuclear fuel actinoids management; non-proliferation of fissile materials and nuclear technologies, increase of nuclear power resources, increase of nuclear reactor safety. The usage of weapon plutonium and uranium at the realization of this transfers the most efficient method of their conversion. 4 refs
