Equilibrium and stability MHD in the magnetic confinement for thermonuclear fusion

Description

A survey of the mayor systems for magnetic confinement of plasmas is made. The basic concepts are reviewed briefly. The equilibrium and stability conditions for open systems (mirrors, magnetic wells, Z and Theta-pinches), for toroidal axisymmetric (Z-Pinch, Screw-Pinch, Belt-Pinch and Tokamak) and toroidal non-axisymmetric systems (High-β Stellarator and low-β Theta-Pinch) are discussed. A comparative analysis between the diferent systems is made. In the conclusions, the author's opinions about future developments in the field are included. (author)

Abstract (Spanish)

Se realiza un analisis del estado actual de los estudios sobre confinamiento magnetico del plasma en la fusion termonuclear controlada. Se exponen brevemente los conceptos basicos. Se detallan las caracteristicas y condiciones de equilibrio y estabilidad en sistemas abiertos (espejos y pozos magneticos, Z y Theta-Pinch), sistemas toroidales axisimetricos (Z-pinch, Screw-Pinch, Belt-Pinch y Tokamak) y sistemas sin simetria axial (Stellarator dealto y bajo β - Theta Pinch). Se comparan los resultados experimentales de los principales laboratorios y los proyectos futuros. En las conclusiones se sugieren algunas posibles lineas de trabajo. (autor)
